A major science laboratory is a biofacturing company that’s using biology to reimagine the world. The company partners with nature to create, develop, and manufacture breakthrough products and materials across a broad range of industries.


The Brief

The client’s company built the major science laboratory, created the working logic with algorithms of machine learning on the backend. But they had no experience with the visualization and user interface for such a complex chemical data management system. So they came to us to develop a front-end of searching mechanisms of the molecules and visualization of the chemical reactions based on the existing backend.
Thus, the main task was to implement an interface for a database search tool to identify molecules of interest, which would be an innovation for research and laboratories.
Our team had to create the UI for easy search and selection of molecules within the chemical data management system that would be used by scientists from the client’s laboratory. The convenience of searching is that the user makes a request about what they want to do based on characteristics and specifications. The system should offer what reactions, processes and chemical compounds could be involved.



The main challenge was the complexity of the product user interface - it’s impossible to visualize chemical reactions through static photos or videos. The process of changing and interactions of the molecules must be demonstrated by the live animation. Also, the product implies a lot of dropdown items, filters and sorting for biological and chemical data.



Before starting work, we carried out the Discovery Phase, which included data collection, analysis of information and planning stage.

At the planning stage, we defined the volume of the product, the budget and the timing of development. We discussed with the client the workflow and provided a description of the final product, how it will work and look.

Product development follows this established plan to avoid unexpected delays or additional costs.

The Results

As a result of common efforts and fruitful cooperation with the client's team, we have created the interface part of the tool for systematization, visualization and storage of chemical data and processes that is used by scientists from the client’s company. Its mechanics is based on artificial intelligence, so the machine can select, recommend a molecule, offer some options for search, or apply a suitable formula.
The client received an innovative startup, which is an interactive database with a full-fledged intelligent search engine that is constantly updated. Its main purpose is to create new molecules according to customer needs. Search algorithm helps chemists visualise molecules for customers, and thus optimise the communication process.Such development contributes to the acceleration of scientific progress, as it improves communication within the scientific community, increases the accuracy and efficiency of experiments, research, as well as the development of biologically active chemicals in various fields.
