Swiss banks can source banking software from three kinds of provider: Swiss software and engineering firms that build custom banking software (for example ti&m, Netcetera, Adnovum, Ergon, ELCA, Zühlke), product vendors that sell a platform (for example Avaloq, Temenos, CREALOGIX), and specialist firms that build AI agents and digital banking products around an existing core. This page compares ten providers on public facts only: headquarters, focus and what each says about banking. S-PRO, a Swiss international firm headquartered in Zurich, is one of them.

A vendor such as Avaloq or Temenos gives you a product to configure and run. A development firm builds or integrates software around your systems. Many Swiss banks combine both, for example a licensed core plus a development partner for channels, integrations and AI agents.

How do you choose a banking software development partner in Switzerland?

Use this checklist for a shortlist. The regulatory points below are taken from FINMA’s own documents; confirm applicability for your institution with compliance and legal.

  1. Regulatory fit.Ask how the partner supports FINMA Circular 2023/1 (operational risks and resilience, for banks) and, for outsourced services, the FINMA outsourcing circular (Circular 2018/3).
  2. AI governance. If the project uses AI, FINMA Guidance 08/2024 (18 December 2024), “Governance and risk management when using artificial intelligence”, reports what FINMA observed in supervision: a central inventory with risk classification, data quality, testing and monitoring, documentation, explainability and independent review. For externally purchased or outsourced AI it points to due diligence, additional tests and controls, and contractual clauses on responsibility and liability. It also notes that Switzerland has no AI-specific legislation and that the technology-neutral financial-market rules apply. Ask how the partner documents models, data and third-party dependencies.
  3. Information security.Ask for the certificate, not the claim. S-PRO holds ISO 27001 and ISO 27701; ask every provider the same.
  4. Data location and subcontractors.Ask where code, data and test environments sit and which subcontractors or delivery centers touch them.
  5. Banking references.Ask for references from regulated institutions you can call, and for what the partner actually built (not only the brand logo).
  6. Fit with your core.Check experience with your core banking platform, whether Avaloq, Temenos or another.
  7. Exit and ownership.Agree source-code ownership, documentation and hand-over before signing.
  8. Size and delivery model.A firm with 500+ staff and a specialist team are different bets; match them to the project size and the skills you need.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask us

What is the difference between a banking software vendor and a banking software development company?

A vendor sells a product, such as a core banking or wealth platform (Avaloq, Temenos, CREALOGIX), that a bank configures and runs. A development company designs and builds custom software or integrations for the bank (for example ti&m, Netcetera, Adnovum, Ergon, ELCA, Zühlke, S-PRO). Many banks use both.

Which Swiss companies build digital banking software?

Swiss firms that publish banking or financial-services work include ti&m, G+D Netcetera, Adnovum, Ergon, ELCA, Zühlke and S-PRO (development firms), and Avaloq, Temenos and CREALOGIX (product vendors). Check each company’s references for your segment: retail, private banking or asset management.

Which FINMA rules matter when a Swiss bank hires a software development partner?

FINMA documents relevant to such a project include Circular 2023/1 on operational risks and resilience (banks), the outsourcing Circular 2018/3 and, for AI projects, FINMA Guidance 08/2024 on governance and risk management when using AI. Whether and how each applies depends on the institution and the service; confirm with your compliance function.

How do I choose between a large firm and a specialist?

Match the partner to the project. Large firms bring breadth and capacity; specialists bring focus on one domain such as digital banking or AI agents. Ask for banking references, the named team, security certification and the exit terms in either case.

Can a bank add AI agents to its existing core banking system?

Yes in principle: AI agents usually sit around the core and connect through APIs, with controls, logging and human oversight defined with the bank’s risk function. See AI agent development for how S-PRO approaches this.

Does S-PRO build banking software for Swiss banks?

S-PRO is headquartered in Zurich and builds digital banking software, data platforms and AI agents for banks, wealth and asset managers and fintechs. See fintech software development for services and published cases.
